About The Tour
Shadybrook is honored to host the monks on their Sacred Earth and Healing Arts of Tibet Tour. The purpose of the tour is to share with all people the monks’ culture, as well as practices and paths to inner peace and compassion.
Tours like this help fund the construction of essential facilities at Gaden Shartse—such as a new debate hall and a health clinic—while also supporting teachers’ salaries, medical care, and the daily needs of monastic life.
About The Talk - Karma: Cause and Effect
The evening will include a talk on Karma: Cause and Effect, shared by a Lama and a monk. They will share information about their life in the Monastery and School as well as an overview of the beliefs of the Gelug School of Tibetan Buddhism, one of the four great traditions of Tibetan Buddhism. The teaching explores how our actions shape our lives—and how awareness can open the door to transformation. A question and answer session follows, offering space for curiosity and reflection.
About The Monastery & School
Gaden Shartse Monastic University is situated amid lush green hills and jungle in the remote countryside of southern India. It was founded in 1969 as an effort to re-establish one of the great monastic traditions of Tibet.
Today the college is at the forefront of the revival of Tibetan Monastic education, with more than 1600 resident students, teachers, scholars, and spiritual practitioners. More than 70% of the members are between the ages of 10 and 25 and 80% of these were born in Tibet. To this day, young monks arrive at the Monastery weekly from Tibet, seeking shelter and education. Due to the success of the academic program and the quality of the teachers at the monastery, Gaden Shartse has established a reputation as being the leader in the field of Buddhist and Tibetan studies.

About the Proceeds
All donations for this event are tax-deductible and will go to support the Gaden Shartse monastery, a 501c3 nonprofit organization. The monks subsist solely on donations and the kindness of others. 100% of donations received go to the monks' monastery and children's school. The monks will have tax receipts available at the event.
The monks will have Tibetan and Buddhist merchandise available for sale before and after the event, with all the proceeds going to their fundraising efforts. They can accept cash, checks and credit cards. Checks should be made out to "Gaden Shartse Cultural Foundation".
Suggested donation: $15-20
All are welcome! No one is turned away if a donation is not in their budget.
