Kinnoull Hill, North Inch, Balhousie Castle, Bertha Fort & Rodney Gardens
Augusts' Wellness Day will see us visit the lovely City of Perth.
Kinnoull Hill & the tower, the North Inch, Balhousie Castle (the home of the Black Watch), (Bertha Fort (a Roman Fort & settlement) & Rodney Gardens
Running throughout our 20km walk though, the beautiful Silvery Tay.....
Kinnoull Hill commands the lower end of the Tay & its estuary, the Carse of Gowrie & the opposing shores of Fife, onward to Dundee and the line of the Tay Bridge.
William Wallace is said to have concealed himself in a cave on the hill, to avoid detection by his pursuers.
Kinnoull Tower was built to resemble castles along the Rhine & will form one of the highlights of the walk.
Bertha is the name of the site of a Roman Fort built around AD83.
At that point it was the highest navigable point of The Tay.
A Roman Altar Stone, inscribed DISCIPVLINA AVGUSTI was found at the site in 1958 & is on display in the Perth Museum.
Balhousie Castle was built in 1331 & is currently the HQ & museum of
The Black Watch.
