Mon Oncle

Explore the extraordinary and everyday world of gardens in a specially curated series of films, screening in collaboration with V&A Dundee's exhibition, Garden Futures: Designing in Nature.

The first screening in the series, Mon Oncle, will be introduced by James Wylie, Project Curator at V&A Dundee.

Genial, bumbling Monsieur Hulot (Jacques Tati) loves his top-floor apartment in a grimy corner of the city, and cannot fathom why his sister's family has moved to the suburbs. Their house is an ultra-modern nightmare, which Hulot only visits for the sake of stealing away his rambunctious young nephew (Alain Becourt). Hulot's sister (Adrienne Servantie), however, wants to win him over to her new way of life, and conspires to set him up with a wife and job.

Featuring an iconic geometrically shaped garden, Jacques Tati’s third feature is a satirical assault on the twin targets of efficiency and the modern world. Winner of the Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film and a Special Prize at Cannes.
