ABOUT THE PROGRAM
Postcards from Vienna offers an intimate, emotionally resonant portrait of a city that has shaped the very soul of classical music. Performed by violinist Joshua Brown, a laureate of the 2024 Queen Elisabeth Competition, and pianist Marina Radiushina, acclaimed for her expressive artistry and depth, this program traces Vienna’s musical legacy through four distinct lenses—each a personal letter from a different moment in time.
Mozart’s Violin Sonata in B-flat Major, K. 454, written for a celebrated female violinist, captures the balance and elegance of the Classical era. With Schubert’s Rondo in B minor, we enter the expressive heart of early Romanticism. Fritz Kreisler’s sentimental gems Liebesleid and Liebesfreud offer a nostalgic echo of Vienna’s golden age. Finally, Brahms’ Sonata in D minor, written in the twilight of the 19th century, brings storm and tenderness into sharp focus—a deeply personal work that carries Vienna’s past into an uncertain modernity. Together, these works form a mosaic of longing, beauty, and memory—echoes of a city where music was, and still is, a language of the soul.
