Community Defense: For the Abolitionist, Affirming, and Newly Activated
Are you tired of every nonprofit, protest, faith community, or radical organization’s only safety plan is to call the police?
Are you tired of the only serious conversations about faith community, LGBTQIA+ org or centers, or community organizing collectives’ only response to hate, threats, and intimidation is to reach out to Law Enforcement Officials who often don't have your communities highest interest at heart?
Are you tired of the tough-guy, macho security firms?
Join us at the First English Lutheran Church for a day of education and direct experience sharing by activist, author, and movement chaplain rev. lenny duncan ( they/ them) drawing off of 3 years on the ground experience in Portland Oregon from May 30th, 2020-2023, and their continued national anti-christofacist organizing experiences.
They will share strategies for community defense, mobilization in resistance to oppressive policies, and how to respond in courage when targeted by hate groups, as well as have an open conversation about the human cost, best practices, and moral weight of sending people's bodies into the fray. This is meant to be a day of practical, actionable learning, training, and suggested following a community, and a leader. Most importantly, members can walk away with more definitive next steps over the next few years to accompany or become more centered in "movement" work in an increasingly dangerous body politic. Reparations and Radical Pricing.
