Join us for our FREE summer long playground recreation program. Columbus Parks and Recreation is happy to offer this free summer-long summer camp experience! Children from all over the community are invited for a summer of fieldtrips, recreational games, sports, crafts, etc. at Donner Park! Camp is ran and monitored by our staff of summer camp counselors out of Donner Shelter! Come Out and Play campers will have a weekly visit from community guests from the library, visits to Donner Aquatic Center and field trips around town. Children can be signed in and dropped off at the Donner Shelter, or busses will pick up and drop off children at our neighborhood park pick up points:
• 9th Street Playground
• Pence Street Park Playground
• Morningside Playground
• Parkside Playground
Our staff is comprised of high school and college age counselors. Our staff all have a passion for working with children, passed background checks, and underwent a training on park policies. While bumps, scrapes, and interpersonal conflicts between campers are natural in a play-focused setting, our staff’s top priorities are safety and fun.
Our daily goal is to facilitate play amongst the children. Daily, a free lunch is served. Mondays (not our first Monday June 9) we attend the pool. Thursdays, we take fieldtrips to fun locations around town. On a standard day, children are able to participate in organized small or large group games outside at the Donner Shelterhouse, or are able to construct their own play experiences under staff supervision. When weather is a concern, be it rain or heat, we are able to move activities inside of Donner Center and kids are able to continue their play as well as having supervised access to our video game set up, where kids can play various Nintendo games together.
Registration: Drop-In. Parent or guardian must be present on first pickup to complete
permission slip and health information.
