Owen Hatherley in Conversation

We are delighted to be welcoming editor, journalist, historian and critic Owen Hatherley to Wivenhoe (St Mary’s Church Annexe), on 14th August, to discuss his latest book, ‘The Alienation Effect’. The book covers many of the innovations, discoveries and movements (in film, photography, literature, art, architecture, philosophy, politics and more) that Central Europeans brought with them to the UK, when they fled the threat of fascism and various forms of bigotry and discrimination in the early 20th century. It is, as The Guardian put it, ‘acute, informative, passionate and witty…a sometimes moving tribute to achievement in the face of diversity, and an essential antidote to crude theories of national identity.’
