Juneteenth, the holiday that commemorates the abolition of slavery in the US, is one of the country’s oldest and largest celebrations. Throughout the month of June 2025, we will be welcoming audiences of all ages to critically examine our local history and celebrate Juneteenth.
All programs are FREE and will take place at the Missouri History Museum in Forest Park unless otherwise noted.

Celebrate Juneteenth with Nine PBS and the Missouri Historical Society
Monday, June 2 | 5–8pm
Join Nine PBS and the Missouri Historical Society for a special community event honoring the 160th anniversary of Juneteenth. At this event, we will explore the history of Juneteenth, its past and present impact on our region, and its enduring significance in our community.

Storytelling in the Museum: Soul Food Summer

Mmmm yum! June is National Soul Food Month, so let’s kick it off with some savory stories.
Just Breathe STL Wellness Series
Wednesdays, June 4, 11, 18, 25 | 6–8pm
The Collective STL presents an intergenerational summer wellness experiences. Participate in an all-levels yoga class and enjoy a variety of activities, including journaling, mindful art, music, live DJ performances and food.

The Art and Empowerment Mural

Join the Missouri History Museum and Better Family Life Inc. for a discussion about the inspiration that led to the conception of the Arts and Empowerment Mural, the largest black history mural in Missouri.

Joyful Juneteenth: An Evening of Performances
Thursday, June 19 | 5–8pm
Come join us on the Edward and Margaret Imo Family Plaza for a joyful Juneteenth Celebration with an evening of performances highlighting the beauty of Black American culture. Outdoor seating is limited and will be first come first serve so please bring blankets and/or lawn chairs if possible.
This is also the opening day of "Tuskegee Airmen: America’s Freedom Flyers" at Soldiers Memorial. Be sure to hop on our shuttle to and from Soldiers Memorial and the Missouri History Museum to see the new exhibit and the Juneteenth program!
