Past in the Palm of your Hand: Flint Knapping Demonstration

Watch expert flint knappers transform raw stone into sharp-edged tools—just like the ones used by the Mississippian people a thousand years ago. You will learn how projectile points, knives, and scrapers were shaped using only natural materials.

Featured Artifact:

**The Beaver Lake Point**

This rare, expertly crafted spear point was found at Dunbar Cave. Though we don’t own the original, its style shows us the artistic and functional mastery of early toolmakers in this region.

Why It Matters:

Before iron, steel, and modern machinery, people relied on their hands, knowledge, and natural resources. Flint knapping reminds us of our shared ingenuity and deep connection to the land.

* Did different tools serve different purposes?
