ABOUT THE SPEAKER
Oscar Barzuna “Figu” is a professor of entrepreneurship and business analytics at Queens University of Charlotte and UNC Charlotte. He specializes in research on entrepreneurial discipline, business model formalization, and the role of institutional trust in emerging economies. His work blends academic rigor with practical application, focusing on helping entrepreneurs—particularly those from underrepresented or informal sectors—build resilient, data-informed ventures. In addition to his academic work, Figu actively consults with entrepreneurs and small businesses across Latin America and the U.S., providing guidance on performance indicators, tax compliance, and formalization strategies. He is passionate about experiential learning and frequently mentors students through real-world consulting projects and startup competitions. His recent engagements include collaborative work with municipalities, chambers of commerce, and economic development organizations to foster inclusive entrepreneurial ecosystems.
