The Mummies
Budget Rock is (finally!) hitting Sled Island, courtesy of Otoboke Beaver’s curation. Formed decades ago in the sand dunes of California, The Mummies are a perpetually crashing car of thrashin’ punk ‘n roll, delivered at the lowest fidelities possible. This is your favourite band’s favourite band, and their chaotic live show has to be seen to be believed.
Glockabelle
A genuinely original punk provocateur known to wail a glockenspiel, Glockabelle pushes the boundaries of what art rock can be. Imagine a one-woman typhoon of Casio skronks delivered at clanging volumes, and you’re in the ballpark of what to expect. She’s shredded SXSW, opened for Jack White's Raconteurs while touring as a member of the Fiery Furnaces, and even hosts her own festival in New York, LOVEFEST.
Last Waltzon
Ominous riffs and moody vibes are the name of the game for Last Waltzon. Their latest sonic attack is Wethouse, a 12-track volley of freaky art-rock unleashed last March. Mixed by Chris Szczech, it’s the perfect introduction to their world of genre-leaping post-punk, the soundtrack to a world that needs a hard reset.
Crachat
Formed in 2022, Crachat is a punk power trio with snappy tunes fuelled by teen angst and delivered in an extravagant way. Last year's album Fille Poupée (which means “girl doll”) showcases their brash, no-frills punk snarl with girls-up-front all the time. Rock ‘n’ roll, tutus and vivacity are always on the menu with these badass princesses.
