We are delighted to be hosting Tina Beardsley and Ash Hayhurst for an evening exploring what it means to be trans and Christian, and how we explore this theme theologically.
Christina (Tina) Beardsley (she/her), a retired healthcare chaplain, and former parish priest, has Permission to Officiate in London & Southwark dioceses, and is a Visiting Scholar at Sarum College. Tina has co-edited/co-authored a trilogy of books about being transgender and Christian: This is My Body: hearing the theology of transgender Christians (DLT 2016); Transfaith: a transgender pastoral resource (DLT 2018); & Trans Affirming Churches: How to Celebrate Gender-Variant People and Their Loved Ones (Jessica Kingsley, 2020).
Ash Hayhurst (he/him) is a trans awareness trainer, member of the Good Funeral Guild and author of Making Informed Choices When Planning a Funeral - a Guide for Queer People. He currently leads the GIRES 'Being Ready Project', which aims to improve palliative, end-of-life, funeral and bereavement care for trans and gender diverse people in England and Wales
With personal contributions from:
Rebecca Williams (she/her). Rebecca is a genderfluid transwoman living in Sussex. In her ‘Drab’ existence she worked in IT for a bank, retiring in Nov. 2022. She's been out as Rebecca since 2016 and has been involved in a number of Christian LGBTQIA+ groups and activities. She trained as a Spiritual Director 2022-2024, and became a volunteer Police Chaplain in Nov. 2023. Rebecca also likes to visit National Trust gardens and go to a lot of football matches.
Please note there will be time for Q&A, but this is an inclusive and trans affirming event. Any transphobia will not be tolerated and those displaying it may be asked to leave.
