The Invisible Dog and The Scion Project and are pleased to present How the Sausage Gets Made, a solo presentation by Stephen Morrison. The exhibition features a selection of new sculptures alongside a restaging of Dog Show #4: House Broken, originally presented at Hashimoto Contemporary.
In his signature blend of humor and surrealism, Morrison transforms familiar baked goods, fruits, vegetables, and other everyday foods into uncanny dog-like forms. Over the past four years, he has developed a playful visual language of “food dogs,” and this show debuts twelve new additions to the growing pack.
Installed in the windows of The Scion Project, a rowdy cast of miniature construction worker dogs—self-portraits in canine form—wreak havoc instead of building anything. These man-dog hybrids indulge in distraction and theatrical mischief, turning the artist’s own self-criticism into a scene of absurd productivity failure. Together, the works offer a glimpse into Morrison’s chaotic creative process—equal parts discipline, disorder, and dogged imagination.
Stephen Morrison was born in Maine in 1991. He earned his BFA from the Laguna College of Art and attended Yale Norfolk and the New York Studio Residency Program. In 2021, the artist had his debut solo exhibition at The Invisible Dog Art Center. His work has also been exhibited in numerous group shows, most recently at Hashimoto Contemporary, Wassaic Project, and Lauren Powell Projects. In 2023, the artist had a solo booth presentation with The Invisible Dog Art Center at The Armory Show.
