The Local Honeys Bio:
The Local Honeys, a Kentucky-based duo consisting of Montana Hobbs and Linda Jean Stokley, have spent nearly a decade becoming a defining sound in authentic Kentucky music. Praised by legends like Tom T. Hall and outlets such as The New York Times, they’ve toured with artists like Tyler Childers and Colter Wall, solidifying their place in the Kentucky musicscape. Their self-titled debut on La Honda Records showcases their deep connection to rural Kentucky, weaving personal stories with rich, moody soundscapes. Guided by Grammy-nominated producer Jesse Wells, the album captures the raw essence of Appalachia through tracks like “The Ballad of Frank and Billy Buck,” which portrays hillbilly life with grace and irony, and “If I Could Quit,” a powerful reflection on the opioid crisis.
The Local Honeys’ music transcends tradition, blending rollicking banjo with overdriven guitars and heartfelt storytelling. With contributions from The Food Stamps rhythm section and engineering by Grammy-winner Anne Gauthier, the project achieves warmth and cohesion rooted in genuine friendship. Their songs reflect contemporary Appalachian life with pride and authenticity, touching on themes of family, addiction, and the enduring spirit of Kentucky. Poised to be leading voices of modern Appalachia, The Local Honeys honor their heritage while carving out a space entirely their own.
