Welcome to I LOVE – the Brighton launch of Rosy Carrick's new poetry collection, and the greatest night of your life! More than a book launch, this will be an immersive, theatrical, music-filled night of madness, memory, hope, lust and love – see you there!
About the book:
In her second collection, award-winning poet and playwright Rosy Carrick presents a passionate, lyrical and unflinchingly intimate collage of ruptured memory, drowned childhood, irreducible violence, and the intoxicating chimera of inviolable desire. Experimental and playful, the poems dart across a fractured and eclectic terrain: from quantum mechanics, grimy London sex clubs and fridged women to blood retinal barrier corruption, haunted reservoirs and salted gastropods; from Baudrillard’s semiotics to the architectural aspirations of Elizabeth Bennet; from gurning infants to ecstatic glitter and misplaced canine arseholes; and always back to how it might be possible to love from under the rubble.‘

About Rosy
Rosy Carrick is a writer and performer whose work charts an unusually eclectic trajectory.
She co-hosted the Latitude poetry stage between 2011 and 2016, and was co-curator and co-host of the Port Eliot poetry stage between 2017 and 2019. She ran the monthly performance poetry event Hammer & Tongue Brighton between 2008 and 2015, as well as the annual Poets vs MCs event at Brighton’s Concorde 2. She has co-hosted the Glastonbury Poetry & Words stage for the last decade. Her debut poetry collection Chokey was published by Burning Eye in 2018.
Rosy's debut play Passionate Machine won the award for Best New Play at Brighton Fringe, and The Infallibles Award for Theatrical Excellence at Edinburgh Fringe in 2018, before touring internationally throughout 2019. Her critically-acclaimed second play Musclebound, which focussed on the power and performance of female sexuality via motherhood and tortured 80s beefcake, was on tour 2024-25.
Between 2022 and 2024, Rosy co-wrote a new videogame with ZA/UM studio, the makers of the explosively successful and multi-award-winning Disco Elysium.
Rosy has a PhD on the poetry of Vladimir Mayakovsky and has released two books of his work in translation: Volodya (Enitharmon, 2015) and Vladimir Ilyich Lenin (Smokestack, 2017). She is currently working on Dochka: a new collection of Mayakovsky's never-before-translated poetry for children.
Between 2012 and 2016, Rosy taught English Literature and Critical Theory at Sussex University, and was an associate tutor in Creative Writing and Performance Skills at Brighton University until 2020.
