About this Event

Experiments in Public Art Lecture Series: Warping the Future – An Augmented Lecture
Join the City of Boulder for Warping the Future, a unique multimedia lecture that explores the deep, often-overlooked connection between the history of weaving and the origins of computing. Delivered through objects made available in augmented reality (AR), this experience invites attendees to engage with historical tools and narratives in an entirely new way.

Based on a 2021 exhibition by the presenting artist duo, this interactive session brings to light the vital role women and marginalized communities have played in shaping both textile and technological innovation. You’ll walk away with a new perspective on how threads, code, and cultural labor are all woven into the digital world we inhabit today.

Panel Discussion: Innovation and Conservation Practices in Textiles and Other Technologies
Following Saturday’s lecture, join us for a panel discussion featuring local artists, researchers, and cultural practitioners whose work touches on both innovation and conservation in textiles and emerging technologies. This conversation will spark dialogue across disciplines and examine how traditional practices and contemporary methods can inform one another.

🗓 Schedule:
Warping the Future Lecture:
Thursday, July 31, 7:00–8:30 p.m.
Saturday, August 2, 11:30 a.m.–1:00 p.m.
Panel Discussion:
