Friday - Reveals: Letting the Dance Come to You (Advanced)
Building on a foundation of deep listening, weight sharing, and improvisation, this class aims to amplify the dance you already have by layering in heightened, focused concepts.
We'll begin by warming up together, moving through space while testing each other’s spines, awakening eye contact, and examining habitual patterns. From there, we'll dive into these core concepts, allowing them to reshape and refine our dancing.
Saturday/Sunday - Couches, Cradles, and Perches (Intermediate)
Contact Improvisation (CI) is a fascinating form of movement, filled with dualities that both complement and contradict each other. My focus is on exploring the spaces that exist between these dualities—those subtle moments of transition where one state shifts into another.
In my own recent dancing, the most useful images that guide me have been cradles, couches, and perches. Each of these represents how the spine adapts to support, shaping itself to balance and push boundaries with a partner. Once that temporary balance is achieved, the next challenge is how to fall and move forward into the next phase.
Over the weekend, we’ll explore solo movements that build mobile, living cradles through the pelvis and spine. From there, we’ll engage with partners, examining the transitions from one couch to another. Finally, we’ll add speed, allowing these well-crafted transitions to create lofted landings (or perches) with anyone nearby.
