SomoS Arts is pleased to host Self-Publishing as Resistance, a special one-day event centred on the collaborative and independent publishing practice of Nashr, founded by Iranian artist Afshin Chizari in 2023. Organised by Tehran Contemporary Sounds, the event includes the Berlin launch of “Mirroring”, a newly published monograph and artist book series, accompanied by organiser Behrooz Moosavi.
In addition to the launch of Mirroring, the evening will feature the first public presentation of five projects developed and published by Nashr. The event includes a temporary exhibition, projected visuals, and a live conversation in which Chizari will share insights into the motivations, processes, and collaborative nature of the publications. Select books and prints will be available for purchase.
Drawing from more than a decade of painting, Mirroring also forms the first three publications in Nashr’s growing body of work. The notebooks—Module 1, Module 2, and Module 3—unfold as a slow, thoughtful sequence reflecting Chizari’s sustained engagement with memory, repression, and cultural displacement. This layered event bridges print, projection, and performance to create a multisensory experience that explores independent publishing as both artistic expression and political gesture.
