A symbolic institution without rules, Solntsetsvety have been developing survival models for over 30 years — one of which is Magical Unicellular Music. These performances offer an intense psychoacoustic experience in which the audience acts as an essential component of the event.

Magical Unicellular Music is performed using primitive tools: electric monochords made from tree branches during the event itself, household objects equipped with strings — tables, chairs, and construction debris. Their sound goes far beyond the possibilities of conventional string instruments like electric guitars. The microtonal components generate unpredictable overtone shimmerings, dynamic interferences, and other acoustic phenomena.

“For us, creating a situation is more important than creating a concept. Discovering the situation is a way to be alive in a specific point in time and space.”

Magical Unicellular Music is an international stage project that emerged from the Solntsetsvety collective — psychedelic troglodytes from the Belarusian underground of the 1990s. Magical Unicellular Music combines trends from contemporary microtonal and spectral music with principles of archaic presentation. The project is curated by Anton Kryvulia, founder of the collective and author of the hauntological project Mokh (Мох).

Solntsetsvety do not perform often. Each such event is an autonomous, large-scale work that requires long preparation — impossible to repeat, and impossible to forget.

Символическая институция без правил, Солнцецветы более 30 лет производят модели выживания, одной из которых является Волшебная Одноклеточная Музыка. Перформансы Волшебной Одноклеточной Музыки предлагают интенсивный психоакустический опыт, в котором зритель действует как необходимый компонент события.

Для исполнения Волшебной Одноклеточной Музыки используются примитивные средства: электрические монохорды, изготовленные из веток деревьев прямо во время события, бытовые предметы, оснащённые струнами — столы, стулья и строительный мусор. Их звучание выходит далеко за пределы возможностей привычных струнных инструментов типа электрогитары, а микротональные компоненты звука создают непредсказуемые обертоновые сияния, динамические интерференции и другие акустические феномены.

«Создание ситуации для нас важнее создания концепции. Открытие ситуации — это способ оказаться живыми в конкретной точке времени и пространства».

Солнцецветы не выступают часто. Каждое такое событие — это самостоятельное, большое произведение, к которому нужно долго готовиться, которое невозможно повторить — и невозможно забыть.
