Hanno Leichtmann is a sound artist and curator from Berlin known for his influential contributions to the electronic music scene and his festival curations. He began his music career in the late 1990s and quickly gained recognition for his unique approach to electronic music production and performance. His work spans various genres, from experimental electronics to ambient and minimalistic loop music. His artistic vision is characterized by subtle soundscapes, delicate rhythms, and a penchant for sound exploration.
His work as a curator of music festivals and events is one of Leichtmann’s particular strengths. He has curated and organised an impressive range of events, including the renowned „Grand Jeté“ series at OHM, the „LETRA / TONE, Festival for Graphics and Music“ and the „SYN / CUSSION“ Festival for Percussion and Electronics“. These festivals are internationally acclaimed and provide a platform for experimental electronic music, audiovisual performances, and sound installations.
Over the last years he realized several sound installations in Berlin, like FERROCHROME at DAAD gallery and LOW NOISE CHRONICLE and ECHO CHAMBER at various galleries in the city.
His latest two albums OUTERLANDS and CHROMACOLOR have been released in 2024, and they also form the basis of his current live performances. Hanno Leichtmann will present OUTERLANDS live in Galiläakirche.
The Material for OUTERLANDS was recorded on the Villa Aurora Organ, built in 1928/29 by Artcraft Organ Company, Santa Monica, California. This cinema style organ consists of a pipe organ, a wall mounted marimba and a two octave tubular bells/chimes ensemble. All sections of the organ were MIDI equipped in 2010 and are therefore also remote controllable. Some of the recordings were processed with a ER – 301 sound computer. (Foto: Camille Blake)
