Talk-Through 14 h (Studio 3)
Community gathering/Soft arriving for people familiar with the score 15-16 (Studio 4)
Global UNDERSCORE practice 16-20 h (Studio 4)
The Underscore, developed by Nancy Stark Smith, is a – jam underlying – score that visualizes the “changing states”, from solo deepening/releasing and sensitizing to gravity and support; through group circulation and interaction that are happening in jam formats. It encourages the integration of kinesthetic and compositional concerns while improvising and encourages participants to balance listening to both self and other on multiple layers.
The Underscore is intended for people who are familiar with CI and have some experience. It asks the participants to commit for the whole length of the practice.
The Global Underscore (GUS) is a world-wide practice, where CI dancers do the Underscore practice simultaneously. It usually happens once a year. The GUS includes moments of connections to other sides of the GUS
Talk-Through: For participants who haven’t received a theoretical introduction the talk-through before the Underscore is mandatory. But you can also come if you know the score and want to refresh your memory or simply if you enjoy the ritual of going through the phases and principles.
Community gathering/Soft arriving: After the talk-though we take a whole hour that has an open structure. You can hang out and chat, go get a snack, take a nap, or take lots of time to arrive (energetically, physically), socialize with CI friends you haven’t seen in a long time…
If you know the talk through well and just want to participate in the shared practive make sure to arrive somewhere in this hour so that we are ready to begin the assembly all together at 4. We will close the door on time!
We are happy to also have Barnaby Tree (Cello) improvise with us as a live musician.
Registration: In order to participate we ask you to register beforehand. It’s important to us to hold a space that has both focus and lightness and allows for everyone in the space to sense everyone else. So we don’t want the space to become too crowded. In contrast to open jams we ask you to stay for the whole duration of the practice.
Please bring something to eat and drink for the sharing at the end!
