Originally formed on Long Island, New York in 2000, Car Bomb is a band known for its highly experimental and extremely aggressive approach to metal. Their unpredictable sound features evolving polyrhythms, shifting tempos, syncopated down-tuned guitars, jazz-influenced drumming, harmonically deconstructive riffing, and dynamic vocals. The result is music that is pulverizingly heavy and intensely disorienting.
Car Bomb creates fluid and ever-changing compositions, often veering off into bold melodic tangents. This unique sound, combined with a strong DIY ethic and a steadily growing fanbase, has led to tours with some of the genre’s biggest names.
The band released their debut album Centralia on Relapse Records in 2007, supporting it with US tours alongside High on Fire (2008) and Gojira (2009). Their second album, w^w^^w^w (pronounced “w-click-w” or “the waveform album”), was self-released in 2012 and featured guest vocals by **Joseph Duplantier of Gojira. They toured with Gojira again later that year.
In 2014, Car Bomb was invited to tour Europe for the first time, opening for **Meshuggah** on their 25th anniversary tour.
Their third album, Meta, was released in fall 2016. It again featured Joseph Duplantier, this time also sharing a co-production credit with Greg Kubacki. The album also includes guest vocals by Frank Mullen of Suffocation and was mixed by Josh Wilbur (known for work with Korn, Megadeth, Lamb of God, Parkway Drive).
To support Meta, Car Bomb played shows with Gojira and Tesseract, and opened for The Dillinger Escape Plan on their farewell US tour. In early 2017, the band returned to Europe and the UK as support for Gojira, then headlined their own European tour in September. In October, they returned to the US to support Animals as Leaders and Periphery.
Car Bomb is currently headquartered at Silvercord Studios in Brooklyn, New York.
