Immigrant Voices Film Series: Borderland: The Line Within

Tuesday, June 17, 2025
Doors open: 7:00 PM | Screening at 7:30 PM
Runtime: 110 min.

Sliding Scale Tickets: $10-$25 – Pay what you can.

Join us for a powerful screening of Borderland: The Line Within, directed by Pamela Yates and Paco de Onís, as part of the Immigrant Voices Film Series at La Peña Cultural Center.

Borderland: The Line Within exposes the human cost of the U.S. immigration system, weaving together stories of resistance and resilience in the face of the border industrial complex. The film explores the roots of mass migration from Central America, deeply tied to the impact of U.S. foreign policy that supported brutal regimes.

The United States border is not just a geographic location.
The border is everywhere.
It lies within every undocumented immigrant family with the threat that at any moment they can be captured, incarcerated, deported; their lives destroyed. BORDERLAND | The Line Within not only exposes the profitable business of immigration and its human cost, but weaves together the stories of immigrant heroines and heroes resisting and showing a way forward, intent on building a movement in the shadow of the border industrial complex, recognizing the human rights of all.

After the screening, stay for a discussion with the filmmakers.

About Paco de Onís and Pamela Yates

Directed by Paco de Onís and Pamela Yates, co-founders of Skylight, a human rights media organization, this film connects their Guatemala trilogy (When the Mountains Tremble [1983], Granito [2011], 500 Years [2017]) to the current struggle for immigrant rights. Skylight’s mission to support social justice movements through cinematic storytelling is woven through this powerful film, confronting the history and impact of U.S. foreign policy on migration today.
