Batesville, AR — The Independence County Library welcomes the community to its annual Juneteenth Chat & Chew on Thursday, June 19, 2025, at noon, for a meaningful celebration of freedom, culture, and unity. This free event will be held at the library, located at 267 E. Main Street in Batesville.
The program will begin with an invocation by Pastor Lawrence Butler of Bethlehem Baptist Church, followed by a poem read by Teacher Kandace Sherman. The Lyon College Gospel Choir, under the direction of Ms. Baretta Robinson, will lift their voices in celebration before turning the stage over to featured guest speaker Collette Ramsey. Ramsey, an accomplished entrepreneur, master gardener, and visionary FarmHer, will present her talk entitled “Pursuit of Freedom.” She is a Wharton School graduate whose leadership journey has included roles with the White House, The Kinnamon Group, and the Pennsylvania State Senate.
The program will conclude with a closing invocation by Pastor Ercenia Strickland.
Lunch will be provided by Chef Bryson “Chef B” Neely, a Batesville native and soon-to-be graduate of the Auguste Escoffier School of Culinary Arts. Attendees will enjoy a Southern-style meal of BBQ pulled pork, potato salad, and baked beans.
