Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) is a grappling-based martial art that is currently one of the fastest growing sports in the world. Known for its effectiveness on the mats, and outside the gym for self-defense, it provides a full body workout and fosters a strong sense of community among practitioners. Originally developed with the core principle of empowering a smaller individual to defend against a larger opponent, this martial art appeals to a wide audience and your journey can begin at any age and level of ability.
As a complex, dynamic discipline, with new techniques being introduced every day, it provides a never-ending process for learning. This can also make it intimidating, or even overwhelming at times. This series aims to provide a framework for your learning process to help you make sense of the techniques you are learning and how to apply them. We will go over the WHY for what you are learning, and how each component supports your overall practice or game. You will come away with the tools to navigate a sparring session confidently, learning a few effective options for offense, defense, and the sequences that tie it all together. We will also introduce self defense concepts that will equip you to stay safe in the most commonly encountered scenarios.
Whether your goals are to explore BJJ as a hobbyist, competitor, or for personal safety and empowerment, this series will provide a supportive movement vocabulary, a roadmap for your practice, and a deeper connection to yourself, and your fellow practitioners.
