Step back in time during Michigan’s Log Cabin Day.
The Bad Axe Historical Society’s Pioneer Log Village (205 South Hanselman Street - across from the Bad Axe District Library) will be open June 29 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. and will feature blacksmithing demonstrations, wool spinning, wood carving, antique quilts on display, experience how a milking machine works, facial cutout photo ops for kids, buy some penny candy and participate in old-fashioned kids games & activities.
The village includes a pioneer home, general store, one-room school, chapel, barn, and a blacksmith shop.
On this day, also visit the Elkton Historical Society and Port Austin Historical Society (1-4 pm) to see their log cabins and any possible events they might have!
Michigan Log Cabin Day is sponsored by the Log Cabin Society of Michigan, which was founded by Virginia Handy with the help of the Bad Axe Historical Society. The Log Cabin Society and its 350 members also conduct the Michigan Log Cabin Survey and work to preserve log cabins in Michigan.
We hope to see you and share history with you and your family. Our event is free to everyone although donations are always welcome and will be used for repairs and maintenance.
