Our special Summer touristic event this year will cover Batroun district where we will first have breakfast, coffee and have a tour in the old Douma souk.
Douma souk is famous for its old souk that has well preserved its traditional cachet. The small souk in the middle of the town offers various shops selling local and artisanal crafts and inexpensive goods .
After we finish our tour in Douma, we will go ahead to ASSIA village where we will visit a place where they create hand-made potteries.
Assia Potteries refers to the traditional, handmade pottery produced in the village of Assia, Lebanon. It's known for its distinctive reddish color and rustic, handmade quality, crafted without the use of any machinery.
After hand-made potteries, we will head to Kfarhay for a touristic visit Mar Youhana Maroun old monastery. “Kfarhay” is a Syriac word which means the pure place. Kfarhay is a town in the Caza of Batroun; it has an altitude of 400m above sea level, and located at 67km from Beirut.
After Kfarhay visit, we will head towards where we will have a tour in their organic plants where they offer a range of eco-friendly indoor and flowering plants, along with other green products. It is a plant nursery in Batroun that sells a wide selection of plants, including fruit trees and ornamental species.
Finally, we will visit the castle of Smar Jbeil and the old church of Saint Nohra. The Castle was built in the centre of the village, on a hill showing the entire neighbourhood. Most of the historians recognize that the castle was built by the Phoenicians, and was under the Persian Empire control in 555 B.C.
It passed to the hands of Alexander of Macedon’s (the Great) in 331 B.C. In the Middle Ages, the Maronites and their army the Maradaites took the castle as a refuge and it was the See of the First Maronite Catholic Patriarch Saint John Maron before he moved to Kfarhay.
After our long day in the upper of Batroun, we will head towards the sea to Batroun village where we will have lunch, then have a "walking tour" in the town and visit a few important places such for as much extra time as we still have.
