A Bit of History:
The Festival of the Holy Ghost is a centuries-old Catholic tradition rooted in the story of Queen Isabel of Portugal, born in 1271. Known for her compassion and generosity, she dedicated her life to serving the poor.
One cherished legend tells of Queen Isabel hiding bread in her apron to feed the hungry. When her husband, King Diniz, confronted her, she claimed it was roses — and miraculously, the bread transformed into flowers.
In her honor, we crown a Holy Ghost Queen each year during Mass, followed by a grand procession with her court.
