A Bit of History:
The Festival of the Holy Ghost is a centuries-old Catholic tradition rooted in the story of Queen Isabel of Portugal, born in 1271. Known for her compassion, she dedicated her life to serving the poor.
One beloved legend tells how she hid bread in her apron for the hungry. When confronted by her husband, King Diniz, she said it was roses — and miraculously, the bread turned into flowers.
In her honor, a young woman is chosen each year to serve as the Holy Ghost Queen, crowned during Mass and celebrated in procession with her court.
