Richard Wagner wordt vaak geassocieerd met het concept van het Gesamtkunstwerk, maar Alexander Skrjabin bracht de synthese van de kunsten werkelijk tot leven. In 1903 combineerde hij in zijn mystieke Vijfde symfonie, Prométhée: Le poème du feu, een groots symfonieorkest met een lichtorgel. De kleuren van het licht zouden veranderen met de inhoud van de muziek, al liet Skrjabin niet precies vastleggen hoe dit moest gebeuren. Tijdens zijn leven werd het werk dan ook nooit volledig op deze manier uitgevoerd. Vandaag zijn de mogelijkheden heel anders. Het Brussels Philharmonic onder leiding van chef-dirigent Kazushi Ono brengt dit revolutionaire meesterwerk met zowel licht als geluid tot leven. Ingeleid door twee even hypnotiserende partituren, de Danse Macabre van Saint-Saëns en Debussy’s La Mer, vormt Prométhée niet alleen een logisch vervolg op het werk van de Franse componisten, maar ook het magische hoogtepunt van de avond. Een unieke kans om dit ‘gedicht van het licht’, dat volgens Skrjabin de ‘rebellie tegen God’ belichaamt, te ervaren zoals de componist het voor ogen had. Een zeldzame en indrukwekkende uitvoering van een mijlpaal in de muziekgeschiedenis, nu te zien en te horen in de Blauwe zaal.

Richard Wagner is often associated with the concept of the Gesamtkunstwerk, yet Alexander Scriabin truly brought the synthesis of the arts to life. In 1903 in his mystical Symphony No. 5, Prometheus: The Poem of Fire, he combined a grand symphony orchestra with a light organ. The colours of the light were to change along with the content of the music, although Scriabin did not specify exactly how this should happen. During his lifetime, the work was therefore never fully performed in this manner. Today, however, there are a plethora of possible options. The Brussels Philharmonic, led by chief conductor Kazushi Ono, brings this revolutionary masterpiece to life with both light and sound. Ushered in by two equally hypnotic scores, the Danse Macabre by Saint-Saëns and Debussy’s La Mer, Prometheus is not only a logical continuation to the work of the French composers, but also the magical highlight of the evening. A unique opportunity to experience this ‘poem of the light’, which according to Scriabin embodies the ‘rebellion against God’, in the way that the composer envisioned it. A rare and impressive performance of a milestone in musical history, now awaiting you in the Blue Hall.
