About the event

VOLUNTEER PROJECT DAY AND ORIENTATION
We’ve been busy with more than a dozen placements in the last month and a half, but we’ve taken in 4 horses during that timeframe, and have several more waiting. We still have lots of fence and shelter damage that hasn’t been properly repaired since the March 30 storm, and we have lots of clean up to do. So, we can really use some help with repairs and cleaning at the rescue. It’s also an opportunity for a brief orientation for anyone interested in volunteering on a recurring basis, and at feeding time (around 3:00) we will have key volunteers working with prospects to talk about feeding chores and our regular volunteer needs.

Starting at 1pm, we will have a group retrieving landscape timbers from the Springport farm, while volunteers at the main rescue clean up several pens and use all the power drills we can find to do fence repair, and some minor shelter repairs. We will have lots of feed buckets and troughs to clean, the main driveway needs to be swept/cleaned, and there will be garbage cans from 4 shelter areas to pack up and get ready for disposal. There’s also some basic housekeeping like sweeping the gazebo or feed room, if anyone would like to help us with that. We will be moving a dressage arena and a bunch of jump standards to a new storage area, and if we have enough help, we can start to set up the arena for our "in hand" and ground work programs later this summer.

We will have free tomato plants for anyone who wants them—unfortunately, we can’t tell you which ones are Robeson’s or other red or dark heirlooms, and which are the yellow pear salad tomatoes, but you can take several and hopefully you’ll get at least one that you like.

At 3:00 we will get ready to start with our regular feeding chores, and anyone who may want to volunteer on a recurring basis is encouraged to work with our volunteers to learn about our feeding schedules, horse diets and how we handle feeding time. (This part is optional--there is plenty of work to do for anyone who just wants to come for the day and help with our repair and cleaning projects).

The picture is Phoebe, a local mare who we hope to welcome later this week after her current companion crosses over. Please join us this Sunday to help the rescue get on track as we go into summer. You can stay for an hour or two, or all four hours. We are grateful for the help! If you are interested in volunteering on a regular basis, please try to make sure you are here from 3 to 430 as we do a brief orientation and commence our feeding chores.

Thanks for supporting your local horse rescues.
