Ready to take your painting practice outdoors? Join us for this beginner-friendly workshop designed to introduce you to the art of plein air painting—capturing the world around you with immediacy and expression. Whether you’re drawn to watercolor, oil, or acrylic, this hands-on class will guide you through the essential techniques for working in the open air.
You’ll learn how to:
- Simplify a landscape
- Capture light and shadow effectively
- Work quickly to interpret and paint a scene
We’ll begin by working from photographs to build foundational skills and prepare you for future outdoor sessions. Carolyn will also walk you through material options and share tips for painting confidently on location. Bring along any watercolor supplies you may already have—no need to purchase anything new before class. Supplies are not included in the cost of the workshop.

Please note that our classes are typically held in the lower level of Arlene's. Because access to the lower level is available only by stair, please let us know if using the stairs presents any difficulty for you in advance of the class so we can make alternate arrangements. We want to make sure everyone is able to enjoy and participate in our classes.
