Pub Talks is our new summer speaker series, hosted in collaboration with seven and one books. Each event invites a local expert to share meaningful ideas in a relaxed setting at Grain Theory-followed by open Q&A, good food, and cold beer. Whether you're here to learn something new or just love a good conversation, Pub Talks is for you.
June 19 - Ryan Richardson, PhD
Flourish Anyway: Hope, Meaning, and the Mess of Being Human Ryan takes an honest look at what it means to live a "good life" when life doesn't feel so good. Drawing from psychology, ancient wisdom, and real stories, he invites us to rethink what it means to truly flourish-even in the messiness.
Ryan describes himself as a self-aware Enneagram 3, so writing a bio is both difficult and secretly fulfilling. He holds a PhD in Higher Education (which he assures everyone is a real thing), loves talking about human flourishing, and firmly believes coffee can save any meeting. A recovering camp counselor turned VP, Ryan spends his days helping students thrive, trying to fix broken systems, and sneaking dad jokes into committee meetings. He believes abundant life grows from pain rather than avoiding it. When he finds a spare moment, he sits alone playing piano. Ryan lives in Abilene with his wife, Kristen, and their three boys.
