Our third chain gang of the year switched to the Earls Common loop as there are roadworks on the Tibberton loop. Meet at Shell Ford.
On the loop from Shell Ford through Stock Green and Earls Common we'll be riding through and off to maintain a good speed and get a good workout in.
It's OK if you haven't done one before - we will be happy to coach you - but you should already be an experienced and safe group rider. In terms of fitness you probably need to at least be one of the quicker riders in the C group and already be comfortable with holding a line, calling out hazards and riding predictably. Obviously, no aerobars and you will need lights.
You can find out more about riding in a chain gang/paceline/through and off on youtube, like in this GCN video:
We will ride a lap steadily increasing the pace and then regroup. We'll then ride four or five more, faster, with a sprint finish for those who want one, before retiring to the pub.

It is relatively quiet and safe. However, there are a few spots to watch out for.
The first turn at Shell Ford often has chunky gravel. Take it very steady, and single out here.
Single out after the hill on the drop down through Earls Common. The road is narrow and though parked cars are rare it can be tight if there’s oncoming traffic.
There are two pairs of manhole covers through Earls Common. Do not hit them!
The turn from middle road back to Shell Ford is tight and slightly off camber.
All the roads have rough edges at the verges. Stay well clear of these.
