Learn Traditional Bookbinding: Create Your Own Sketchbook

Make your own sketchbook and learn how to bind like “real” bookbinders with Dana Seeger Harris.

This class will teach you the case binding technique. It involves sewing multiple signatures (groups of pages) together. This process creates a traditional book. Students can choose their covers by hand gluing paper or book cloth to board. This technique is very versatile. It is the foundation for traditional book binding. It can be used for large or small books. Each student will walk away with a completed blank sketchbook.

Throughout the day, students will learn the history of Book Binding, watch demonstrations in the techniques, create their covers and sew their pages together. Students are encouraged to bring a lunch or snack and we’ll take a 30 min break to eat. A show and tell at the end is always fun!

This is a quick moving and in depth comprehensive workshop and we will undoubtedly use every minute of our time together!
