Program Overview:
Horse Powered Reading® integrates social-emotional learning with reading skills, allowing participants to experience literacy using their mind, body, and emotions. Through equine-assisted activities, children will build confidence in reading while improving key literacy skills. The program also focuses on the social-emotional component by helping participants develop focus and patience while learning new skills. Additionally, children will learn to recognize frustration and use self-regulation techniques in their interactions with horses.
Psychosocial Service Component: This program serves as a psychosocial service by addressing both the psychological and social needs of children. The equine-assisted activities foster emotional regulation, social interaction, and the development of coping skills, which are essential for healthy emotional growth. By engaging with horses, children learn to build trust, manage emotions like frustration and anxiety, and communicate non-verbally in a supportive, interactive environment. This holistic approach promotes self-awareness, emotional resilience, and improved interpersonal skills, helping children better navigate both social and academic challenges.
