St. Philips Moravian Church in Old Salem

On May 21, 1865, over 800 enslaved Africans gathered at the African Moravian Church (now St. Philips Moravian Church) to hear the reading of General Orders No. 32 declaring their freedom. Experience this powerful moment—sit in the original pews where freedom was first heard, as we honor our ancestors! Don’t miss it! Free and open to the public!
