The Randolph County former Asylum, a haunting and dark location. Prepare to be unsettled by the spirits that linger here, from young children to the mentally ill. The basement holds a sinister entity that makes its presence known. Vigils in the attic and basement are particularly active. Many guests have captured full-blown apparitions.
The Randolph County Infirmary has a chequered history, with much of its history withheld by the county. Before becoming an asylum, it was a functioning farm. In 1852, it was renamed County Asylum, and Mr. and Mrs. Fitzgerald were employed to care for the orphans, the poor, and the mentally unstable.
The asylum became self-sufficient, producing its own food and selling it to the county. Most of the work was done by the patients.
In 1896, a devastating fire broke out, killing many patients. The unmarked graves are believed to be buried at the rear of the building, though the exact number of fatalities remains uncertain. Around 1899, a new infirmary was built on the site of the previous one.
The Infirmary had poor conditions, with patients roaming, many on medication, and many not receiving the care they needed.
In the 1900s and 1920s, the Randolph Asylum provided care for families who couldn’t afford or care for their mentally challenged loved ones.
During the 1930s, TB hit, and many patients were placed in compulsory confinement. The “food hatches” still stand in many rooms. Many deaths occurred, and there wasn’t enough time for full funerals, so unmarked graves were created.
Unexplained deaths include a man who fell out of a window and torture in the basement.
In 2008, the County closed the Asylum, and the remaining patients were transferred to other hospitals.
The unmarked graves of the deceased remain unfound, but psychics have described and pointed to the same spot.
