The Dundas County Players are excited to announce auditions for their Fall 2025 production of Neil Simon’s Pulitzer Prize-winning heartwarming and funny play, "Lost in Yonkers" Directed by Shannon Murdock

Auditions will be scheduled in 20-minute intervals. Please arrive 15 minutes prior to your scheduled time.
LOCATION: 478 Main Street, Winchester- The Old Town Hall. Downstairs. Auditions will be held in the theatre.

November 21, 22, 23 and November 28, 29, 30, 2025

About the Play:
Set in Yonkers, New York in 1942, Lost in Yonkers follows Bella, a sweet but developmentally stunted woman living with her stern mother, Grandma Kurnitz. When Eddie, Bella’s brother, leaves his two sons in their grandmother’s care to seek work as a traveling salesman, the boys must navigate life under Grandma’s strict rule, Bella’s secret dreams, and the unpredictable presence of their Uncle Louie, a small-time hoodlum.
Director Shannon Murdock is seeking four males and three females for this production.
Familiarity with the play is encouraged. Actors will be asked to read from provided sides during auditions. Sides will be emailed once an audition is booked and will also be available at the audition.

Character Breakdown:
Arthur Kurnitz (about 13): A typical inquisitive boy facing sudden life changes after his mother’s death.
Jay Kurnitz (about 16): Arthur’s older brother, mature beyond his years, struggling to support his family.
Eddie Kurnitz (40s): Mourning his late wife, he faces tough decisions to support his sons, fearing his own stern mother.
Bella Kurnitz (early 30s): Emotionally childlike but yearning for independence and love; lives and works with Grandma.
Grandma Kurnitz (70s): The strict, physically imposing matriarch of the family; speaks with a German accent (accent work required in performance, not at audition).
Louie Kurnitz (late 30s): The family’s black sheep, involved in mysterious and questionable dealings.
Aunt Gert (mid-30s): Eddie, Bella, and Louie’s sister, struggling with a peculiar speech affliction.
