π
GLOW: AN EVENING WALK TO WHITSTABLE
A quick intro
π£ Join us for a relaxed evening walk along the beautiful Kent coast, setting off from Seasalter and making our way to Whitstable just in time to catch the sunset. This scenic route follows the shoreline, offering open skies, sea breezes, and that perfect golden-hour glow.
πΆ At just under 6 miles, the walk is an easy pace and suitable for most. Come along for the fresh air, great views, and good company.
The Route
πΊοΈ Weβll follow the coastal path along the edge of the Swale Estuary, a low-tide landscape of salt marsh, sea lavender, and wide skies. The route is flat, gentle, and full of natural charm. Along the way, youβll spot weathered boats, oyster beds, seabirds, and perhaps even the soft, golden light that gives this part of the coast its special magic in the evening.
π We aim to arrive in Whitstable around sunset β usually a spectacular display over the sea, with the sky turning shades of orange, pink, and violet behind the townβs famous beach huts and fishing boats. After a short pause to enjoy the view, weβll begin our return to Seasalter as twilight sets in.
A Walk Through Time
β³ Seasalter and Whitstable are rich in coastal history. Seasalter, once a centre for salt production in Saxon times, gave the area its name and character. In medieval days, it was controlled by the monks of Canterbury, who harvested both salt and fish here. Whitstable, by contrast, grew from a humble fishing village into a bustling seaside town known for its native oysters, with roots reaching back to Roman times.
π§ The footpath we take between them is more than just a scenic route β itβs a thread through centuries of coastal life, shaped by tides, trade, and tradition.
