Pits, Presidents and Pirates - Walk and Talk

Pits, Presidents and Pirates walk and talk, starts at The Beacon Museum, then takes you on a tour around the Harbour and Whitehaven Town where you’ll find out how a small fishing village developed into a Georgian Gem town and became one of the most important ports in England.

Our fantastic tour guide will tell you about the importance of the mining industry and the danger involved in bringing coal to the surface. You’ll also find out about some of the characters in the Lowther family who were behind the development of the town and some of the industry which was supported.

Dogs are welcome to join, however please note that there is a small section of the walk and talk that takes place at St Nicholas’ gardens which doesn’t allow dogs within its grounds.

**Pre-booking is preferable but not compulsory. In the event of poor weather and the walk being cancelled an alternative talk in the Beacon may be provided.**
