About the event

Jeff Hiller: In Conversation with Julie Klausner
Jeff Hiller talks about his life and career, detailed in his new memoir, Actress of a Certain Age

About this Event

As part of the library's OUTspoken series, elevating LGBTQ+ voices and stories, and in partnership with Triangle Community Center for PRIDE month, we welcome comedian and breakout start of HBO's series Somebody, Somewhere, Jeff Hiller, to the stage!

From growing up “profoundly gay” in 1980s Texas to his experience as an inept social worker and how he clawed, scraped, and brawled to Hollywood’s lower middle tier, Jeff Hiller's new memoir, Actress of a Certain Age, is a collection of hilarious and poignant essays about what happened in the 25 years between chasing (and chasing and chasing) a dream and his (seemingly) overnight success.

Joining Jeff in conversation is writer, comedian, and podcast host Julie Klausner.

Jeff Hiller is an actor, writer, and comedian who has appeared on TV shows such as Somebody Somewhere, American Horror Story: NYC, Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, 30Rock, and Law and Order: CI, among numerous others. His film roles include Greta, Morning Glory, Ghost Town, and Set it Up, and he has performed on Broadway, off-Broadway, in Shakespeare in the Park, Disney musicals, and regional theater. Jeff regularly performs solo shows at Joe’s Pub at the Public Theatre and improvises at The Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre in LA and NYC.

Julie Klausner is the creator, writer and star of Hulu’s critically acclaimed Difficult People. Other notable work includes: co-executive producer/staff writer at Schmigadoon! and Amazon’s reboot of The Kids in the Hall and head writer/co-executive producer for seasons 1 – 4 of Billy On The Street. She’s the author of two books- I Don’t Care About Your Band and Art Girls Are Easy - and has written for the New York Times, the New Yorker, New York magazine and other publications that don’t have the word “New York” in them. She can be heard weekly on her podcasts How Was Your Week? and Double Threat, which she co-hosts with Tom Scharpling.
