Civil War Veterans Walking Tour of the Anti-Slavery Friends Cemetery

🌳 The City of Westfield’s Parks and Recreation Department will be hosting Civil War writer and novelist Kevin Yaney for a historical tour of Westfield’s Anti-Slavery Friends Cemetery, located at Asa Bales Park.

🚶‍♂️ Mr. Yaney will be discussing early historical accounts of the Anti-Slavery Friends in Westfield, the Underground Railroad, and the abolitionist movement in relation to the Civil War. Hear the story of these abolitionists and soldiers that represent Hamilton County’s past.

🧠 This is a great event for history lovers. Children are welcome when accompanied by an adult. This program is free and open to the public, but we do ask attendees to register beforehand, so our presenter knows how many people will be joining.

🚗 Limited lot parking is located at the park entrance along Hoover Street. Additional street parking may be found around the corner along the west side of North Union Street. Meet at the playground area prior to 10a.m.

📢 Please note that the ground is uneven at the cemetery. The grass may be wet and there may be debris on the ground. It does not have available access for wheelchairs or strollers. Public restroom facilities are located at the north end of Asa Bales Park and is approximately a 5-minute walk from the cemetery.
