m/Other is a meditation I’ve created—on kinship, the maternal, and Otherness. Not as fixed categories, but as shifting, unstable forces.
I move between the human and non-human, organic and synthetic, reimagining the maternal as a space of both intimacy and alienation, power and dissolution.
Inspired by Donna Haraway’s philosophy of companion species, and drawing from Japanese custom, I ask:
What does it mean to mother—not a child, but an idea, a creature, a memory, a wound?
To me, the uterus isn’t just biological. It’s a haunted space—a conceptual matrix of inheritance, trauma, transformation.

In this show, I use video, performance, and installation to invoke the body as a porous vessel, entangled with memory, ancestry, and technology.
The figure of the mother flickers through the work: ghost, cyborg, companion, absence.
At the heart of it is my late dog—my beloved companion—whose life, and death, are woven deeply into this exhibition.
His presence guided me. His passing broke me. He still lives here, in this work.
The “/” in m/Other is a wound, a rupture, an opening—inviting new forms of lineage, speculative care, and unfamiliar tenderness.
This is an invitation to mourn, to remember, and to reimagine what care might mean—across species, generations, and time.
