We Shall Overcome, The Seeger Sessions

West Falls Center for the Arts and the Buffalo Music Coalition present Captain Tom and the Hooligans performing “We Shall Overcome” Bruce Springsteen: The Seeger Sessions, on Friday, June 13th at 7pm.

In 2006, Springsteen released an album recorded in three days, with no rehearsals, that captured the glorious sounds of American music: Rock, Folk, Dixieland, Gospel, French Quarter, Honky-Tonk and Blues. All the songs are traditional, public domain songs that had been done by American folk music icon Pete Seeger.

Bruce said, “It was a carnival ride, the sound of surprise and the pure joy of playing. Street corner music, parlor music, tavern music, wilderness music, circus music, church music, gutter music.”

Captain Tom and the extended version of The Hooligans, a lot of Hooligans, will present the full album, and more, in a very special debut performance of the show. Accordion, fiddle, banjo, upright bass, washboard, guitars, drums, keyboards, percussion and a lot of horns.

It’s all here: recipes, prayers, promises, fears, hopes & hollers! This is Americana music at its finest.
