DICK JOHNSON (Magik J)
Dick Johnson is a cornerstone of New Zealand’s electronic music scene. Under his solo alias Magik J, he has released on legendary labels like Yoshitoshi, Renaissance, and Underwater, and collaborated with dance music icons including DJ Sneak, Mark Farina, and Lee Coombs.
As the long-time music director of Synthony NZ, Dick has played a pivotal role in shaping one of the country’s most successful live music experiences — a genre-bending fusion of orchestra, live vocalists, and classic electronic anthems that sells out stadiums across Australasia.
He also holds a regular spot as a resident DJ on George FM, where his mixes consistently deliver smooth, soulful house and a deep knowledge of club culture. Whether on the airwaves, behind the decks, or producing massive live shows, Dick Johnson continues to set the pace for New Zealand’s dance music scene.
