By request: Specialized Workshops for Swing & Jazz Dancers!
Lisa Marks: focus on spins and turns for your Lindy hop and Solo Jazz. Great for working on balance, posture, and grounded connection, too. All levels.
Doug Barber: Solo Jazz Essentials for all Swing dancers. This is a great opportunity to learn/re-learn some basic Jazz steps; but more than that it’s a chance to dive into connecting with the music and finding your own expression in movement.
Lindsay Leong: Solo Jazz for experienced dancers – Improvising with Musicality & Rhythm: Defining the Melody & the Fills. Students should have a solid foundation in basic jazz steps, can easily dance the Tranky-doo/Big Apple/other routines (besides the Shim Sham), and are willing to solo jam and sing (mezzo forte!) with their classmates.
Lucy Falkner & Lindsay Leong: Lindy Hop for experienced dancers – Students should have completed at least a few Intermediate sessions and/or be in the Team program. We will challenge your connection and improvisation skills with a complex combination; practice will include working your own variations and improvisations into the combination. (“Combination” = a 32-bar / 4 x 8-count sequence of moves.)
The day starts with a dance warm-up/workout with Lucy. This hour will include stretches, cardio, footwork drills, core work, and bodyweight resistance work. The first half hour is for everyone of moderate fitness; the second half hour is for those who want a challenge.
