Come out for a mid-August dance at St Michaels and learn some cultural and dance history with a visiting historian!
Felix Lambert is a teacher, artist and researcher who has worked on various projects on mathematics, visual arts, music and history, for which he gave lectures at Harvard, Berlin's Frei Universitat, York, and many others.
His artistic projects included the experimental band Cult of Mr. Light, novels and, ongoing, math-related storytelling paintings. During the last years, he also dedicated much of his time to an extensive series of books on African American dance history: Watch Your Step, a History of African American Dancing. The books have been presented at the Montreal Black Film Festival, in Travis Knights' podcast Tap Love Tour, and are being suggested as a main read on the topic by iLindy and dance legend and historian Chester Whitmore.
8:30-9:30pm - history lecture and Q&A
9:30-11:30pm - dancing to the tunes of DJ Monsieur O!
