Students collaborated on three devised pieces for CO-LAB, inspired by the theme of the Memory Pavilion, forming a triptych titled RECORD, REWIND + REPLAY, and RECALL. Each work explores the act of recording, rewinding, replaying, and recalling memory—through text, movement, sound, and design.

Obsessed with being remembered and driven by a desire to construct our existence through the act of recalling memories—through both digital and physical means—we found ourselves standing in the gaps and glitches of the mind, both collective and individual, attempting to piece together why we record at all, and what it might ultimately lead to. A collective archive, a mirror to the present, a fragmented truth, a form of resistance—or simply our need to press a hand into the cave walls of the universe?

We gathered a wide range of source material: from the expanding realm of surveillance, the film After Life by Hirokazu Koreeda, the Golden Record, and Janet Cardiff's Opera for a Small Room, to the works of Ant Farm and LST, Martin Kunze’s Memory of Mankind project, the writings of James Baldwin, and the evocative line from Shakespeare’s Macbeth: “To the last syllable of recorded time.” We examined artists who center memory in their practice, and those who integrate film to create tightly choreographed live-cinema—where the camera’s pressure on the actor’s body becomes a close-up of the ephemeral, a visceral lens into our shared human condition.

Please note, latecomers will not be permitted and refunds will not be issued for any missed performances.

No re-entry once the performances begins.
