Matariki Puanga - Manu Aute / Kite Making Workshop

Kite making has long been associated with Matariki as a symbol of celebration and communication with the heavens. These workshops will explore the whakapapa of the natural materials used—such as toetoe, kareao (supplejack), and raupō—highlighting their place in our environment and their role in traditional Māori life. Participants will be encouraged to reflect on their own whakapapa and aspirations as they create their manu tukutuku.

Serving of Hāngi:
Limit of 30 people per workshop. Registration is essential. Hāngi will be served to those who have registered. Registration is based on a first come first served basis.

From 17–27 June, the tukutuku panel created during the workshops will be on display at Upper Hutt Central Library—offering the community an opportunity to add their own thread to the tapestry that shapes and strengthens our shared
